Nation's largest organic, grass-fed beef producer names top mgmt.
From Sustainable Food News, Jan. 12, 2010
Panorama Meats, the nation’s largest producer of organic grass-fed beef, said Tuesday it has promoted Lori Carrion to Chief Operating Officer and Wayne Langston to Vice President, Production.
The Vina, Calif.-based company said Carrion, previously vice president, sales at the company, will manage the sales, distribution, quality assurance and production departments.
She will also monitor company compliance with the USDA’s National Organic Program.
Prior to joining Panorama, Carrion worked for a nongovernmental organization administering Federal Crop Insurance Programs under the Risk Management Agency of the USDA.
Meanwhile, longtime Panorama Production Manager Wayne Langston will manage the recruiting of ranchers for the Panorama Organic Grass-Fed Beef program and oversee rancher compliance with Panorama’s cattle-raising protocols.
Langston is a director of the Lassen County Cattlemen’s Association and a past director of the California Shorthorn Association. He manages a registered Angus and Hereford cattle operation in Susanville, Calif., and has shown and judged cattle extensively throughout the country.
The company’s beef products come from cattle raised by ranchers in Northern California, Southern Washington, Southern Oregon and Wyoming, and entirely on pastures of natural grasses, legumes and range forage.
Cattle are never implanted with hormones, fed animal by-products or treated with antibiotics, the company said.
All animals are raised in compliance with Panorama’s Born and Raised in the USA verification program, which requires ranchers to raise cattle humanely in low-stress environments and employ pasture-rotation and land-management practices that promote animal health and protect delicate rangeland ecosystems.
The company sells its products through Whole Foods Market stores in Northern California, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Kansas, New Mexico and Colorado and through other independent retail grocers.
In May 2009, Panorama began working with Arapaho Ranch, the nation’s largest certified organic cattle operation, located on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation, to supply organic, grass-fed beef under the Panorama label exclusively to 28 Whole Foods stores in the Rocky Mountain region.
